Coming Soon: Consumption Lounges
The Commission’s proposed cannabis consumption area rules provide individuals 21 years and older with a place to safely enjoy cannabis and socialize. The proposed regulations are designed to have a positive social impact by promoting public safety and expanding access for people who cannot or don’t want to consume cannabis in their homes. On January 17, 2024, New Jersey’s Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) adopted new regulations allowing cannabis consumption areas, commonly called consumption lounges. The regulations present a unique opportunity only seen in a few other legal states, including California and Colorado, the flagship states of cannabis legalization. The lounges can be either indoor and structurally enclosed or in an exterior structure.
Green Zones
One “green zone” to visit in New Jersey is Atlantic City. Known for its iconic boardwalk, beaches, high-rise hotels and entertainment, Atlantic City is home to numerous adult-use dispensaries and soon, the city’s first lounge at High Roller’s Dispensary. Located inside the Claridge Hotel at 120 S Indiana Ave, Atlantic City, NJ 08401, this will allow customers to purchase, relax and consume responsibility in a safe and comfortable atmosphere. The consumption lounge is expected to open soon upon approval from the Commission.
